These websites offer information on AWSAC: Amazon Web Services for ATLAS Computing, a project initiated by the Max-Planck-Institut für Physik in Munich. The different documents are listed below.
The project was started by Dr. Stefan Kluth, Dr. Stefan Stonjek (both Max-Planck-Institut für Physik, Munich), Jan-Philip Gehrcke and Prof. Dr. Thomas Trefzger (both Uni Würzburg, Fakultät für Physik und Astronomie) to determine the possibilities for ATLAS Computing in the «Elastic Computing Cloud» (EC2), that was commissioned by Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2006. The topic is motivated by advantages Cloud Computing brings along against classical grid computing. Read the documentation to learn more.
On these websites, you can find
- an extensive documentation about the whole AWSAC topic: HTML (reference) or, if you like, PDF (worse maintained)
- an information page about the AWSACtools
2009: I am glad to be able to go on working on this project within Google Summer of Code! Here you can find more details: http://gehrcke.de/gsoc
2008: Until now the ATLAS Software was ported to EC2 and a proof-of-principle job system was developed. It is provided by the AWSACtools (view and download sources here; documented there).
